Favorite music genre

This is where I will elaborate on why Trip Hop is the best genre there is. And why it is such a generic sound with a funky but easy feel.

What genre does not get it for me

Let's be bold, and just share that I really do not enjoy the music that is made lately by these rap, trap, drill scene. Some people might just get that right feeling from this music, but it is just not it. Of course, the old-school rap can be seen as good - without a doubt. And I am not saying the artists don't have talent, they for sure have. Otherwise, they wouldn't get such strong audience. And I have to clarify here, when I was a bit younger - I did also enjoy this genre, now I can't stand it.

So now you know what genre I don't enjoy.
Let's get this negative mindset out of here, and start about what genre I really love, and I think you should too!

TripHop (Acid Jazz)

For me, I have lived with this genre my entire life. It is a genre that I have grown up listening to. Where once every month, I just get that "nostalgic" feeling.

For you to make it easier to understand, what artist would be making a type of music:

And so much more.

If you never heard of these artists before, I'd highly recommend you take the time and listen to it!

The sound of TripHop

The sound all starts, when the song starts. This where it will be groovy, it flows into the singing from some jazz sounding woman with some echo.
Then it breaks down, gets into the drums, slowly and makes it all such a creation which fills in the silences, and turns it into a groovy little funky jazz-ish song.

Waldeck - Slowly
Listen to Slowly on TIDAL

But let's be for real now, the sound of TripHop can be some beat, without a rapper spitting on the track. But slowed down, getting into more groove, and making use of instruments that you have never heard of. (for example this song)

Kruder & Dorfmeister - Deep Shit Pt.1 & Pt.2
Listen to Deep Shit Pt.1 & Pt.2 on TIDAL

This is where an artist like Thievery Corporation makes use of a "Sitar" - this is a more middle eastern type of guitar. Not something you'd expect coming in and following up the groove. That is in my opinion what makes TripHop such a broad and fun genre of music, with all types of instruments and creative twists.

A playlist to enjoy

If TripHop (Acid Jazz) is something that you find interesting, and want to get more into the depth of – create a playlist!

Start off with some songs that you know for sure fit the genre, let's take Lebanese blonde by Thievery Corporation, since we are mentioning them already quite a lot.

Thievery Corporation - Lebanese Blonde (Digitally Remastered Version)
Listen to Lebanese Blonde (Digitally Remastered Version) on TIDAL

With Spotify and Tidal (I'm not familiar with the other platforms) you can add a song that fits the genre, which Spotify or Tidal finds. Listen to each song, add the ones you enjoy to the playlist.

Now to get more into depth into finding artists that are "less known" but hit the same sound. You can navigate to the artist, and look at "What {artists} fans listen to too" - which allows you to find artist, that have a bit of the same sound, resulting in being able to expand to newer sounds and perfect songs.

This is just something I can really enjoy, is taking the time to create a playlist. Specifically the start, with your new headphones - having the audio quite loud, ruining those ears, but fully embracing the music (not recommended).
